Multiple problems can affect the knee. These problems can be causes by sudden injuries, degenerative changes over time, or overuse from work or sports.
- i. Examples of sudden injuries include the following:
- ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL and other ligament tears resulting in knee instability
- Meniscus injuries and tears
- Cartilage injuries
- Patella (kneecap) dislocations and instability
- Quadriceps and patella tendon ruptures
- Fractures
- ii. Degenerative changes and overuse injuries to the knee include the following:
- Osteoarthritis
- Patella tendinitis
- Osgood-Schlatter disease
- Iliotibial band syndrome
