Multiple problems can affect the knee. These problems can be causes by sudden injuries, degenerative changes over time, or overuse from work or sports.

  • i. Examples of sudden injuries include the following:
    1. ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL and other ligament tears resulting in knee instability
    2. Meniscus injuries and tears
    3. Cartilage injuries
    4. Patella (kneecap) dislocations and instability
    5. Quadriceps and patella tendon ruptures
    6. Fractures
  • ii. Degenerative changes and overuse injuries to the knee include the following:
    1. Osteoarthritis
    2. Patella tendinitis
    3. Osgood-Schlatter disease
    4. Iliotibial band syndrome
